This very important museum presents, through its collections. the evolution of the civilizations of Argolis, from the early prehistoric times up to the Late Antiquity. Its best exhibit is the famous bronze armour of Dendra (late 15th century BC).
A very important museum, housed in a very well-kept three-storey Venetian building built in 1713. Thanks to the renovation and upgrade between 2003-2008, the new museum structure was created, separated into thematic sections. They present the evolution of the civilizations of Argolis, from the early prehistoric times up to the Late Antiquity.
The findings mainly come from Franchthi cave, Tiryns, Midea, Dendra, Asine, Kazarma, Palaia Epidaurus, Ermioni.
In a separate display, you will admire the famous bronze armour of Dendra (late 15th century), along with pieces of weaponry, bronze vessels and clay jars.
Among others, you’ll see: The big wheelmade figurines of the late 13th and 12th century BC from ancient Midea and ancient Tiryns, the figurine head, known as “the lord of Asine” of the 12th century, Linear B tablets, clay votive shields from the acropolis of Tiryns (early 7th century).
Moreover, the bronze helmet from the famous Sub-Mycenaean tomb in Tiryns (11th century BC), the first handmade Neolithic clay jars, and a series of clay anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figurines, etc.
The oldest exhibit at the Archaeological Museum of Nauplio is the Paleolithic hearth complex from the rockshelters of Kleisoura Gorge in Prosymna (32000-21000 BC).
