Just to the north of the village Steiri you can see the church of Panagia Steiri (or Steiriotissa) which is considerably older than the village and is thought to date back to the 11th century.
The village of Korfos sits between the pine-forests and the sea to the south of Corinth. It is a relatively modern village as it was only founded at the end of the 19th century when people from the inland village of Sofiko settled here by the sea as it was easier to trade the resin that was the backbone of the local economy.
Just to the north of the village you can see the church of Panagia Steiri (or Steiriotissa) which is considerably older than the village and is thought to date back to the 11th century. It was probably once the main church in a monastery complex and it seems the monastery has a connection with one of the first saints ever to be seen levitating in prayer, Luke of Steiris. The frescoes are the work of the monk Theodoulos Kakavas and were painted in 1668.
While very little remains of the monastery complex, there are some ruins of the monks’ cells which you can explore.

Further south of Korfos is Selonda Bay with impressive vertical cliffs, a sandy beach and the fish farm.
