The great collections of the Archaeological Museum of Pylos, housed in the landmarked building of Maison in Niokastro, present the history of Pylia from early prehistoric to Roman times.
The relocation of the Archaeological Museum of Pylos to Niokastro and the reorganisation of the findings resulted in something really impressive. The distinct atmosphere of the castle, where the historical building of Maison lies, was combined with a contemporary approach to museology. You can easily navigate yourselves, following an “intuitive exhibition scenario”,supplemented by digital applications.
The collections present the history of Pylia from early prehistoric to Roman times. The exhibition has two thematic areas. The first one, entitled “On the most beautiful bay of the world”,presents the unceasing habitation of the coastline of Pylia. The second, named “In the Pylian mainland”, presents the Mycenaean past of the region.
On your tour, you’ll see great archaeological findings, both from older excavations and the latest. Among others, one of the oldest Linear B tablets from excavations in Iklaina, Messinia. The digital applications will enrich your visiting experience.
