This photogenic fishing village with its Maniot-style stone-built houses is a popular place to enjoy a meal or coffee by the clear turquoise sea. The tavernas are famous for their seafood mezes and fresh fish, and the picturesque harbour makes for good photos. Limeni was the port connected to the village of Areopoli.

This was the seat of the Mavromichalis family. Their four-story tower with its arched doorways is called the "palace" and has been restored. It is an impressive building that bears witness to the powerful position once held by the village. According to tradition, Georgios Mavromichalis, the grandfather of the 1821 Greek War of Independence hero Petrobey Mavromichalis, met a water nymph on a secluded beach near here and the two were later married. This is how the locals explained the good looks of the Mavromichalis family, they considered them to be "born of a water nymph"!
Another site worth visiting is the ruined church of the monastery of Panagia Vreti (or Evretria) which was built in 1731. From here, you can see a great view out over the sea.
While there is no beach at Limeni, Neo Oitylo is just a few km away in the middle of Oitylo bay. If you continue a little further north you will reach Karavostasi.
