Discover three of the most picturesque fishing villages in Arcadia, featuring traditional houses, small harbors, tavernas by the sea and wonderful beaches with crystal clear waters.
Tyros
Our old friend the Greek traveller and historian, Pausanias, mentions Paralia Tyros as "a port of fishermen” so in that way, nothing much has changed over the last 1900 years! It is still a fishing port, and it’s a great place to have a look at fishing boats moored in the small harbour. You can also have a stroll along the 2km pedestrian walkway that follows the beach. The houses have tiled roofs which makes the village somewhat reminiscent of an island village, and of course it is surrounded by the lush green Arcadian landscape. You can find whatever you need in the way of tourism services here, and you can read more about Tyros here.
Poulithra
South of Leonidio, Poulithra is one of the most beautiful seaside villages in Arcadia – and even better still, it’s not been discovered by mass tourism. The village nestles under the wooded slopes of Mount Parnon and has a picturesque harbour at one end and a pebbly beach at the other. The beach is sheltered from the wind, has beautiful clear water for swimming and you can usually find a spot in the shade under the trees. And if you’re feeling hungry the village has some good tavernas.
Once you are ready to leave Poulithra you can take a lovely 26 km road trip which follows several twists and turns to go through the Tsakonian plateau and take you to Fokianos.

Sabatiki
About 7 km from Leonidio, turn off the main road and head to the village of Sabatiki. Park at the carpark just above the village and take some time to look at the beautiful view out over the village, the beach and the small sheltered harbour with its fishing boats. Sabatiki is popular with locals who enjoy the crystal clear, blue-green waters at the pebbly beach and the tavernas which serve fresh fish and seafood. And of course there are also cafes and accommodation within walking distance.
