On Thursday 3 October 2024 the 8th World Free Diving Championships will start in Kalamata with the participation of 145 athletes from 44 countries.
The opening ceremony of the great event, which is hosted for the first time in our country and in which top athletes participate in free diving, is scheduled for 6 pm at the waterfront of the Port of Kalamata.
In the Messinian capital, the Deputy Minister of Sports, Yannis Vroutsis, who will make a two-day visit on Thursday and Friday 3 and 4 October 2024, respectively, to honor the 8th World Free Diving Championships with his presence. Mr. Vroutsis will be accompanied on his trip by Olympic silver medallist in water polo, Evi Moraitidou (Athens 2004), Paralympic cycling champion Nikos Papaggelis (Paris 2024), Olympian (Rio 2016) and World Champion in open water swimming Kelly Araouzou, Olympian (Atlanta 1996) in marathon Maria Polyzou and Euro 2004 Champion Kostas Katsouranis.
Co-organizers of the great event that will last until October 12, are the Municipality of Kalamata, the Peloponnese Region and the Nautical Sports Club of Kalamata "Aeolos", while the sponsor is the Greek National Tourism Organisation. Finally, medical support is provided by the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Centre. The main sponsor is NRG, while EVAL is a supporter of nautical goods.
