Home of the Byzantine general who ruled the entire Peloponnese since 1262, Mystras immediately envelops you with its aura. You will need at least three hours to walk on the same paths as Constantine Palaiologos, but you will want to stay much longer.
Standing in front of the historic Castle Town of Mystras’ gate, at an altitude of 600 metres, you will be overwhelmed by the awe of the Taygetos as you admire the unique natural environment. You pass through one of the two entrances and realize that nothing can compare to the scenery. Mystras is a revelation.
Home of the Byzantine general who ruled the entire Peloponnese since 1262, Mystras immediately envelops you with its aura. You will need at least three hours to walk on the same paths as Constantine Palaiologos, but you will want to stay much longer. The imposing scenery will surprise you with its roughness, majesty, architecture, and the unexpected harmony of buildings and nature. Yet, regardless of the fatigue walking through the cobbled streets, you will not give in as you walk in the footsteps of the “Marble Emperor”, the last emperor of Byzantium.
Mystras has already transported you to a different era with its palaces and the seven Byzantine churches with iconostasis sculptures and frescoes.
